Our mission
The Fraternal Brotherhood of Gamma Epsilon Theta, Inc. started on the campus of Hampton Institute in 1968. Gamma Epsilon Theta was founded by five individuals who felt that there was a need for a new black Brotherhood. From its inception, the Brothers of Gamma Epsilon Theta have been true to their beliefs and ideology. In the beginning, the purpose of the organization was to enhance the academic, athletic, community involvement and social interest of male students. However, Gamma has matured like a strong oak tree to symbolize much more than that. The organization has blossomed into a family who has grown to fulfill its purpose.
The storied history of The Fraternal Brotherhood of Gamma Epsilon Theta began on the campus of the historically black college known at the time as Hampton Institute. The creation of Gamma came during a tumultuous period in American history, but the sixties were also a time of liberation and new energy. Thus in 1968, five young, exceptional and innovative Hampton Institute students had a vision of creating a new and different brotherhood for young men that still endures today. The five original members of Gamma; Alfred Lambert, Lonnel "Al" Miller, Felton S. Rogers, William "Dusty" Taylor, and Leroy "Loops" Watson rose above the civil rights movement, the Vietnam war, segregation, widespread poverty and drugs by overcoming those obstacles to create an organization that stands as strong as the Emancipation Oak tree that still stands on Hampton University's campus today.
The spirit of Gamma brotherhood spread in the early seventies to other institutions of higher learning such as Norfolk State College, Howard University, Bowie State College, and University of Maryland at College Park. Today, Gamma still fosters the vision set forth by our founding brothers, to build an organization that will withstand time, and we continue to carry on the legacy of our colors which symbolize "Green for the wealth of the Brotherhood and Blue representing the sky's unlimited goals".
